Jason Momoa is Aquaman
Is it just me or is DC really making strides in casting ethically diverse characters in their upcoming productions. Check out my boy Jason Momoa, who was born in Hawaii and is of partly Polynesian descent with the directors vision embracing his Polynesian roots and it beautiful. Check out the tattoos. This is a breathtaking representation of the character and so natural.
This is a case of reverse “Whitewashing,” that I welcome. Maybe because I'm an island boy too and I know how proud he is representing. The comic book purists will be up in arms but I think that the Aquaman character can take these adaptations and the source material will not be affected adversely. Actually, it improves on the character.
Momoa said recently:
The greatest thing for me is that Polynesians, our gods, Kahoali, Maui, all these water gods, so it’s really cool and a honor to be playing a [water] character. And there’s not too many brown superheroes, so I’m really looking forward to representing the Polynesians, the natives.
My family are some of the greatest water men on earth. I’m not, but I’m going to go train with them. But it’s really an honor just being a Polynesian. And water is the most important thing in this world and we all know it.
I wonder if the character will be able to manipulate water. I can't wait to see how he develops.
